I am 72 years old, have worked for an eye clinic as a receptionist and have been a bookkeeper. More recently, I have been the president of my stroke recovery support group. When I was 52, I went to the V. A. hospital for a hysterectomy. During that procedure, my anesthesiologist intubated me into my trachea instead of my esophagus. My brain was starved for oxygen and I suffered an iatrogenic stroke and, I never received my hysterectomy.
For 4 minutes, I was dead on the operating table and suffered severe brain injury. I was revived and was in a coma for 3 weeks and when awoke, I had aphasia. I didn't know anyone, even my own children. I couldn't talk and was completely paralyzed on the right side. I lived at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Denver for 12 weeks and was able to walk out of the hospital very slowly, using a cane. My right side did not operate at all.
I went home and went every day to out patient rehabilitation on the assisted transport. Then I attended 3 times per week. They helped me learn how to talk, write, and read. Learning how to read took for ever. When I finished rehab, I was unable to read very much, very fast and had trouble with retention. My speech was sporadic. Some days I couldn't keep my train of thought and my vocabulary was horrible. My walking was horrible. I walked with a walker and then advanced to a cane.
I met Dr. Groover at a Lion's Club luncheon. He was the speaker and I asked him if he thought he could help me. He said he thought he could and accepted me as a patient. At first, it felt very strange being treated by Dr. Groover and practicing the exercises he gave me to do. His methods were so unusual.
I started noticing results quickly. After two weeks I was able to read a novel and remember what I had read. This was amazing, since before, I was unable to track my words. I would read the same line over and over, and by the time I would get to the next one, I couldn't remember the line I had just read. I could also write better. My speech improved considerably. My walking was improving. I could walk farther and easier. My energy was steadily growing.
I had Dr. Groover speak to my stroke recovery support group. An elderly woman from the group began seeing Dr. Groover shortly afterward. Before her treatment she couldn't stand unassisted, walk, talk, or go to the bathroom without help. When she was helped upright, she stood hunched with a severely bent over posture. Periodically, her right leg would stiffen, straighten out like a board and tremble. It seemed to hurt her severely, because she would cry and utter incoherent sounds and words.
The day after Dr. Groover performed his spinal correction on her, I saw her at my stroke recovery support group. She was standing up straight and having a normal conversation with two of the members. I approached her and asked what had happened. She told me that she was better. Dr. Groover had performed his correction on her the day before, and she had stood up straight, and walked out of his office unassisted. I heard that after her dinner, she used to sit quietly alone at the dining table while her daughter washed the dishes. Now she had begun standing and talking with her daughter while her daughter washed the dishes. Her daughter also said that her mother was able to go to the bathroom without help.
I have been working with Dr. Groover for 9 years, and I continue to improve all the time. I can tell the difference in my progress each time I visit him. Now when I get in and out of bed, I can feel the sheets sliding along the skin of my paralyzed leg.
My walking continues to improve. I am able to flex my right hip, bend my knee and step straight forward instead of my usual spastic hemiparesis gait. I have also learned to walk for periods of time without hyperextending my knee. My right side is stronger now, and I can use my right hand. My manicurist and hair dresser for many years says my right arm and leg have become much stronger.
Dr. Groover has helped me lower my blood pressure and my blood sugar. I continue to feel better all the time. My energy continues to improve more-and-more over the years. One thing that has made my recovery easier, that Doctor Groover is not only my doctor but has also been a good friend.
I know I am forgetting a lot about what Dr. Groover has done for me. I absolutely recommend Dr. Groover to everyone who needs help with their health.
Sincerely,
Norma Gayle Crow
